So while Obsidian is a beast and likely unparalleled as personal knowledge management software goes, there were just too many features for me to focus.Īlso something weird about Markdown files is that any images you copy onto your file are stored separately in the folder. However if you are like me, you could spend waaaaay more time lost in the community extensions browser (total kid in the candy shop) while not being productive in the slightest (and claiming to be optimizing for future productivity). God bless these freaking smart developers and coders who basically gave Obsidian magic powers to become whatever you want it to be. Obsidian: this one is actually free! Its basically a markdown editor but with a gigantic community of creatives. It has nice UI, is relatively fast, easy to use, syncs on phone, what else does a person want? And then I realized - SO MUCH MORE. I used to use the Apple Notes app for everything. If sending an email and the receipient also has Hookmark, you can link an earlier email or file that they also have a copy of (no matter where its stored), and it will link. So if you download a file, link it to your running project, then allow your auto-file sort rules to kick in (sorting rules via Hazel -> Devothink for "smart" file management and metadata tagging) and then later, while working on your project, try to look for that downloaded file again, you just activate Hookmark and it appears! You literally dont have to even know where its saved. These links retain even if the file is moved. Basically you can take any file - like an email, a word doc, a text file, a picture, whateverrr - and then you can link it to any other file. Hookmark: I literally dont know how this app works and am convinced its magic. Can easily switcheroo and ot have to go digging through your workspaces. Gives you a list of all the titles of tabs open in safari. Tab Switcher: Safari has gotten a lot better at tab management but this app was so clutch back in the day (and still sometimes is). Python Time!) and these links will present whenever you open the workspace. Alternative is Workspaces - you can assign files, applications, etc. workflows) which is pretty nice to pull up instantly. Udock is nice because I sort out my apps into categories and can easily find them when in goldfish mode. I like this because I have the memory of a gold fish and am forever forgetting what that one clutch app was called. This one is uDock, which is a basically a floating platform to display your apps, files, folders. Okay obviously I'm a bit extra and the proof is that my workflow now uses 4 app switchers simultaneously. So clean, so fast, so efficient, stay on task. So, right command + S switches to Safari. Basically converts your right command key into a hyperkey that you press + the first letter of whatever app you want to open. Can active fast type and go even faster! One click or one keyboard shortcut and I'm on my merry way. In addition to a dock, Contexts also has a keyboard based app switcher thats super fast. Contexts: The nice thing about Contexts is that you get another dock of not just your active application, but distinct windows (yes, a one-click shortcut to switch to any window of an open application. So about three years after regular use, I now pay for Contexts for switching. However, if you are like me, so many preview boxes appearing on your screen without a logical grouping pattern can get wearisome. Previews of the app window is a nice visual concept. Tembo is nice because it can display 20k search results and then sort this surprisingly fast. The search function itself could be better, which is why I pay extra for Tembo. You can make custom workflows such as saving a bookmark into a centralized manager (I used Raindrop - free!) or automatically retrieving that pesky 2FA code without having to switch to mail app. Anyways, here's the list of reasons why I'm never going back. Then I got an iphone and it was all downhill from there. Hi I was a windows fan all through childhood, high school, college.
